The company is the brainchild of Kwan and her partner Pelin Aksu, also the mom of a tween girl. In an industry that is well known for over sexualized advertising, JstBU is on a mission to change the conversation and empower young girls. She made the leap, and within months of pivoting back into fashion with the October 2018 launch of JstBU, Kwan knew she’d made the right step. “We work with and donate a percentage of our sales to causes that help and empower young women,” says Kwan. In fact, JstBU is on a mission to celebrate young girls who care deeply about their community.
