As the snows start to fall, many northern states are mixing up some nice saltwater brine to keep their roads safe. Concerned about the environmental impact and rising cost of rock salt, Wisconsin recently ordered up high-capacity brine machines that allow a smaller amount of salt dissolved in water to be sprayed directly on the road, instead of salt bouncing off the pavement.
