In Detroit, one school leader’s reaction to lead in the water: Shut off the taps

Old schools, newer schools, high schools, elementary schools — all proved susceptible to lead contamination. Add that to understaffing, crimped budgets and a lack of regulation, and water testing seldom rises to a top priority. The school is among Detroit schools where elevated levels of lead or copper were detected in the most recent round of water testing.
