Job growth slowed nationwide last year, but it accelerated in California as the state notched a record 118-month employment expansion. California’s unemployment rate held steady at its record low of 3.9% in December, the same as in November and down from 4.1% a year earlier. The nation’s unemployment rate also remained unchanged in December, holding at 3.5%. In contrast, job growth across the United States eased to 1.4% last year, from 1.8% in 2018. The unemployment rate was 4.4% in December, down from 4.7% a year earlier.
