With more than 48 hours of campaigning still left in Alabama’s scandal-shrouded U.S. Senate campaign — and the outcome far from clear — some Republicans have already conceded defeat. Moore was notably absent from the event, which underscored the dicey politics and arm’s-length nature of the president’s embrace.
