The cost of their travel, along with the surgery and recovery care, was paid for by the Shriners. Don McCron, also pictured, was Chief Rabban at the Rameses Shrine in Toronto, as well as founder of the Scarborough Shrine Club. “Shriners are an organization that builds hospitals for children,” says McCron’s son Jim. “When people think of Shriners,” Jim adds, “they think of conventions and strange hats. Mary joined the women’s branch of the Shriners, and all their children became similarly involved.
