Despite a spirited final quarter, Ireland couldn’t find the equaliser their display deserved. Sarah Torrans produced two efforts on goal that were kept out by Mercedes Artola before winning a penalty corner. From the set-piece, Hannah McLoughlin picked out Michelle Carey, whose deft deflection sent Ireland into a 1-0 lead. Ireland withdrew goalkeeper Micklem to add an extra outfield player and piled forward, but Argentina held firm to secure the three points.
