In rural areas, rainwater harvesting is done through surface storage bodies. Time and again, the importance of surface water bodies has been recognised. Compared to groundwater, surface water is a renewable resource. And surface water bodies play a very important role in the recharge of ground water. Hence, even if groundwater is to be used on a sustainable basis, the maintenance of surface water bodies becomes very important.
