In the latest World Economic Forum (WEF) rankings, Singapore has slipped down the leaderboard. The United States in particular, once the harbinger of free trade and close international relations, is currently undergoing an almost complete structural reform under a new stewardship with a firmer stance against free trade. Evidently, Singapore is still not quite up there in terms of competitiveness once you remove free trade from the equation. The big question then is this: What needs to be done in order to ensure that Singapore remains competitive in the event that its comparative advantage is taken away from them?
