MANILA, Philippines — A lawyer for WellMed Dialysis and Laboratory Corporation (WellMed) on Friday demanded before the Department of Justice (DOJ) the immediate release of one of its owners, Dr. Bryan Christopher Sy. Under the RPC, the authorities have a maximum of 36 hours to detain a suspect arrested without a warrant, absent of any case filed in court. “In view of the foregoing, we respectfully deemed for the immediate release of Mr. Sy for there is no ground, under any laws, rules or regulations, for his continued detention,” the letter further stated. Sy went to the NBI last Monday in response to a subpoena for an investigation on “ghost” claims to Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth).
