As a member of the class of 2024 at Northwood High School in Kemp Mill, I experienced the COVID-19 pandemic’s devastation of our education system. Many of my peers rarely come to class; in Montgomery County in the 2022-’23 school year, 36% of high school students were chronically absent. Having barely made it through pre-calculus, I decided to take the easiest calculus class I could. As I prepare to graduate Friday, I see that our system has failed the class of 2024.
