A noisy and illegal road salt depot operating in a residential area of Halifax is frustrating neighbours and city officials. People living in the area of the former Ben's bread factory on Pepperell Street can hear the sounds of equipment loading salt in the middle of the night whenever it snows. "It was really annoying, in the middle of the night I would hear beeping. Adeline Dubreuil-Mahe says her baby, Alexis, is often awoken at night by the neighbouring road salt operation. Illegal operationThe road salt depot is operating illegally, without permits and violating zoning bylaws, said city spokesperson Brendan Elliott.
