Traffic had been halted at the intersection at 10am due to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina return from her tip to the United Nations General Assembly in New York. Both sides of the road were blocked after the prime minister set off due to the crowd of party supporters. “Why do they have to inconvenience us to welcome the prime minister?” she said. Awami League supporters carried many placards, banners and festoons to greet the prime minister as she made her way to the Ganabhaban. Traffic was halted for over an hour by the time the prime minister arrived.
