A first-time candidate is grabbing attention after dramatically outraising high-profile Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar in his bid to defeat her in next month’s primary in Minnesota. But in the crucial battle for campaign cash, she’s been walloped by her main primary challenger, Antone Melton-Meaux. Melton-Meaux reported having $2 million in his campaign coffers as of the end of June, nearly double of Omar’s $1.1 million cash on hand. Taking aim at her challenger’s fundraising, Omar political aides said in a statement that “our campaign is about organizing people. Fellow "Squad" member Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez also faced a well-financed Democratic primary challenger last month in the New York primary.
