In the future, driverless vehicles will be everywhere, we’re told. But anyone who thinks they might be able to head to the office party, down countless drinks, then kick back while their driverless car takes them home, could be in for a shock. It will still be an offence, of course, to command a driverless vehicle even if you’re not actually driving. With the driverless car boom only a decade away, if experts are to be believed, many are yearning for their arrival but many are fearful, too. As of Jan. 1, participants in Ontario’s automated vehicle pilot program can test driverless cars on public roadways, under strict conditions.
