The Battle of Alberta has been a lazy throw-away for Hockey Night in Canada promos for well over a decade. On February 2, 2019 the Edmonton Oilers were 23-24-4, for 50 points, 7th in the Pacific Division in the 2018-19 season. Today the Oilers wake up second in the Pacific, 28-18-6, 62 points, and a win out of 1st. Fast-forward to Saturday night: Gagner had every right to make a stab for the uncovered puck. Others are “o.k.” with it but will argue that since they can’t measure it in their Stat-o-Matic world there is no proof that it actually helps win games.
