If this estimate holds, it will represent a 22% increase from 2014. The report features examples of measures states say they are taking to keep pedestrians safe -- everything from implementing high-visibility enforcement using pedestrian decoys to completely redesigning roads to lower speeds. There’s something happening here which is more than the fluctuation that can happen from time to time." Based on preliminary information provided by the states for the first six months of 2016, the GHSA concluded that an estimated 5,997 pedestrian fatalities occurred in 2016, compared with 5,376 in 2015 and 4,910 in 2014.
