Iconic newsreader Philip Sherry has died at the age of 87. The Wellington-born presenter passed away on Sunday morning following what his son described as a “short illness”. 3 News TV Newsreader Philip Sherry as he presents the first 3News bulletin. In 2018, Sherry was named a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit for his extensive services to local government and broadcasting. His death was announced on Sunday at the Catholic Eucharistic Convention in Auckland, at which Sherry had been an MC for many years.
