Iberdrola cyber attack compromises data of millions of customers in SpainThe electricity company insists that “sensitive” financial data wasn’t penetrated by the hackers in SpainSpain’s energy giant Iberdrola has revealed that it suffered a cyber attack on March 15 which has affected 1.3 million customers, although the company has reassured that the hackers were unable to access “sensitive” information such as bank details. The attackers did however manage to infiltrate the system to glean data like names, DNI/NIE identification numbers, addresses and telephone numbers. In a statement sent to its customers, Iberdrola assured that the necessary measures to mitigate the impact of the incidence have been implemented and that no financial data, like account numbers or credit cards details have been violated. Representatives have, however, recommended that its customers be especially cautious of any emails or communications purporting to be from Iberdrola. Since the incident came to light, which occurred almost simultaneously with others in Spain and Europe, Iberdrola has revealed that it was warned by the United States government about the possibility of a cyber attack after the invasion of Ukraine.
