International Organization for Migration (IOM) has appealed the international community for $119.77 million to support more than 500,000 newly arrived Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh. IOM, at the request of the Government of Bangladesh, has been leading the Inter Sector Coordination Group, which is coordinating the humanitarian assistance to Rohingya refugees. Prior to the latest influx of refugees, IOM was coordinating humanitarian assistance to around 200,000 refugees living in makeshift settlements in Cox’s Bazar, and it continues to support this population, as well as newer arrivals. Tens of thousands of Rohingya refugees began a mass exodus to Bangladesh since August 25 this year, escaping the brutal military campaign in northern state of Myanmar. The influx of Rohingya refugees has resulted in a severe humanitarian crisis in Bangladesh.
