The training gathered 40 participants, including officials from the Ethiopian Customs Commission, Immigration and Citizenship Service, Ethiopian Public Health Institute, Federal Police, Ministry of Trade and Regional Integration, and Ethiopian Police University. Federal and Regional trade and border management officials and representatives from the Small-Scale Cross-Border Trade Association, IOM Ethiopia, and IOM’s Special Liaison Office to the African Union Commission and United Nations Economic Commission for Africa also attended. “Managing migration and cross-border trade efficiently is both a priority and a challenge,” said Tewodros Getachew, IOM Ethiopia National Programme Officer for Immigration and Border Governance. In collaboration with national partners, IOM is developing a cross-border trade training manual tailored to Ethiopia’s specific needs. These tools aim to address operational challenges at border points and support Ethiopia’s rollout of its border trade implementation with Djibouti.
