According to a report released yesterday by the National Statistics and Census Institute (INDEC), 9.3 percent of Argentina’s workforce (including people available and actively looking for jobs) was unemployed during the second trimester of 2016. However, in some cities with a lower unemployment rate, a large underemployment rate can be seen. For example, the underemployment rate in Tucumán is 13.9 percent. In the City of Buenos Aires, the unemployment rate is 8.5 percent (140,000 people) and underemployment is 10.2 percent (169,000). Ever since then, INDEC was criticized for presenting less-than-accurate figures on inflation, poverty and the economy at large.
