IMD says showers to continue today, after Mumbai hit with sudden rain

The intensity of showers is slated to recede over the weekend with no warnings issued for the metropolis. A day prior, sudden rain had lashed Mumbai and its neighbouring districts – with several pockets receiving over 60 mm rain within a period of one hour – triggering waterlogging in some low lying pockets. Data from IMD showed that between Thursday and Friday morning, the Colaba coastal observatory recorded 43 mm of rain while the Santacruz station registered 27 mm of rain. On Friday, even as a yellow alert was sounded in the city, Mumbai received little to no rainfall until evening. Meanwhile, civic officials said that amid heavy showers, Mumbai recorded 18 tree collapse cases between Thursday and Friday with the highest incidents logged in the western suburbs.
