IGP: Farhad Mazhar was not abducted

Inspector General of Police (IGP) AKM Shahidul Hoque on Thursday said columnist Farhad Mazhar was not abducted, rather he left Dhaka and returned of his own volition. “Analysing the information gathered, we have found that he was not abducted,” the IGP said while addressing a press conference on Thursday at the police headquarters in Dhaka. “We are guessing that he did this to embarrass the government and to make some money.”Responding to a query on whether police have any idea as to how Farhad left Dhaka, the police chief said: “We think he left Dhaka in a bus. The IGP also added that they will scrutinise whether Farhad Mazhar had lied, and if found, necessary actions as per law will be taken against him. Later in the night, Rapid Action Battalion rescued him from Abhaynagar upazila in Jessore and brought him to Dhaka.
