IGP: 2019 crime rate dropped 7.5 per cent


KUALA LUMPUR: The crime index in Malaysia recorded a decrease of 7.5 per cent throughout last year, with 249 cases per 100,000 populations. Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador said despite not meeting the target of 269 cases, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) had shown remarkable achievement. On the issue of drug abuse among police personnel, Abdul Hamid said 269 officers and staff were arrested through Op Blue Devil last year. Abdul Hamid said the Commercial CID detained a total of 15,876 people through 17,582 operations during the year. Meanwhile, the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) had arrested 3,086 people for various traffic offences, and 296 others for other offences.
