Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission has said the information about missing 3,000 Kenya Integrated Electoral Management System kits is false and misleading. In a statement on Wednesday, the commission chairman Wafula Chebukati said the auditor general report made reference to BVR kits and not KIEMS kits. "BVR kits are used for voter registration and not voting, the commission procured 15,000 BVR kits in 2012 that have technically reached the end of life," Chebukati said. In a report dated March 14, 2022, and tabled in the National Assembly, Auditor General Nancy Gathungu revealed that 3,925 BVR kits were missing as well as seven KIEMS kits. Chebukati further said all KIEMS kits have been prepared and ready for dispatch to the returning officers before deployment of elections officials and materials.
