more-inTHOOTHUKUDIIndian Coast Guard personnel rescued five fishermen on a country boat who got stranded in mid-sea off Periyathazhai coast in the district on Tuesday. Sources in the ICG said the fishermen ventured into the sea from Terespuram on the country boat owned by Kenson of Poobalarayarpuram on Saturday. As the engine of the boat developed a technical snag in the small hours of Monday, the fishermen got stranded 20 nautical miles away from the coast. After they alerted the ICG through emergency number 1093, ICG Ship Abhiraj rushed to the spot and rescued the fishermen on Tuesday morning. As the engine of the country boat could not be repaired, it was towed up to Thoothukudi outer harbour area and the fishermen were handed over to Tamil Nadu Coastal Security Group, who brought them to the old harbour in the evening.
