IBS use soon compulsory for all private real estate developers


KUALA LUMPUR: The use of the industrialised building system (IBS) in construction will be made compulsory for all private real estate developers in a three-year transition phase starting this year. He said private developers are given a period of three years to prepare and improve company operations so that they can employ the IBS system in the period set by the government. “After three years, it will be compulsory for the IBS system to be used by private developers because it is the key to increasing demand (for property), and (is) the future of the industry,” Zohari said after the IBS Mechanism Implementation Town Hall here yesterday. Also in attendance was Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government Ministry secretary-general Datuk Muhammad Mentek, and Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) chief executive Datuk Ahmad Asri Abdul Hamid. The town hall, with the topic of “Making Use of IBS Compulsory in the Construction Industry”, was held to elicit feedback from various parties as a guide towards implementing its use in private construction.
