IATA says aviation staff can help fight poaching and stop illegal ivory trade

“Aviation is committed to playing its part in stopping this illegal trade,” IATA said. The International Air Transport Association has said it will help fight poaching. In a statement on Monday, IATA said transnational criminal gangs are exploiting the increasingly interconnected air transport system to transport wildlife trophies. IATA is the trade association for the world’s airlines, representing 260 airlines or 83 per cent of total air traffic. In June last year, IATA signed an MoU with CITES to support the war on ivory trade as well as ensure the safe and secure transport of legally traded wildlife.
