Share TweetBy Jeffrey DamicogThe Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking (IACAT) has sought to intensify its fight against labor exploitation and trafficking in the country through a partnership with an international non-government organization (NGO). Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra, IACAT chairman, signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) yesterday with Plan International Philippines Country Director Dennis Guy O’Brien. “Under the MOA, IACAT and Plan International Philippines shall work together to support and promote initiatives and strengthen policies and regulations against commercial sexual exploitation of children, trafficking in persons, and exploitation of fishers at sea,” the Department of Justice (DOJ) said. The council conducts various projects geared toward the elimination of trafficking in persons in the country, prevention of the occurrence of trafficking, the protection and rehabilitation of victims, and conviction of trafficking offenders.
