Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has vowed to defend former President Uhuru Kenyatta against any attacks that will demean his legacy and personality. "I will not let Uhuru Kenyatta's name be dragged through the mud ever again because I am the one who will defend him now. We want Uhuru's name to be respected because he did a lot of work in this country,' he said. Gachagua said Uhuru had warned the region yet they did not listen to him, noting that he went to Kasarni during the handover, embarrassed. In May 2024, speaking at a rally in Kiambu County, Gachagua sensationally stated that the Mt Kenya region was misled into denigrating their king.
