The 56-year old was stripped of the Black Stars captaincy prior to the start of the 1992 Africa Cup of Nations(AFCON) tournament in Senegal. Appiah confirmed on Wamputu Sports on Happy FM that it was management’s decision to strip him off the captaincy without any prior notice. “It was true they took away the captaincy from me because they said I couldn’t speak French”“There wasn’t any communication. I will not say that is why we couldn’t win the trophy but a lot of contributing factors”, he concluded.
