'I feel fulfilled' — Hopkinton Fire Chief Slaman to retire after 32 years with department

HOPKINTON — There’s no one reason that Stephen Slaman decided to retire as the town's fire chief. “I feel fulfilled.”On Tuesday night, the Select Board voted unanimously to appoint Deputy Fire Chief Bill Miller to become chief. He prefers to describe progress the department has made during his time as chief. “The town has grown a lot and I’m very excited that we have grown with the town,” Slaman said. I’m going to be a happy fire chief walking out of that door.”Norman Miller can be reached at 508-626-3823 or nmiller@wickedlocal.com.
