I’m a pediatrician, all parents should be aware of this hidden danger during the holidays

A pediatric emergency room doctor has revealed one of the biggest hidden dangers parents need to be aware of this holiday season, especially as they visit their grandparents and older adults. It's called 'Granny's Purse Syndrome,' according to Florida-based Dr. Meghan Martin, who explained that it happens when young children get into their grandparents' medications that are not properly secured. Dr. Martin said that 20 percent of poisonings in young children are in fact related to the accidental ingestion of a grandparent's medication. 'Some of these medications can be really dangerous; they can be pain pills, antidepressants, heart medications, blood pressure medications, or diabetes medications,' Dr. Martin continued. 'Never refer to medication as candy, medication is not okay to eat, candy is okay to eat,' the doctor said.
