Hydro-electric power plant stalls after Danish financiers withdraw


Corporate NewsConstruction of a 600-kilowatt (KW) hydro-electric power generation plant in Meru by a community-based organisation (CBO) has stalled after the financier withdrew. SHARE THIS STORY TweetMt Kenya CBO through Mt Kenya Power Company, had secured financing from the Danish International Development Agency (Danida) through Community Development Finance Trust (CDTF), a non-governmental organisation. More than 250 members of the CBO were expecting to earn about Sh2 million every month after they signed a Power Purchasing Agreement with Kenya Power last year. Speaking to the Business Daily, Mr Ikunyua said the plant, on River Kathita near Meru town, was expected to be ready by February 2014. Mr Ikunyua said the private investor is expected to have a stake in the project once it is implemented.
