The victims were Alamgir Bhuiyan, 60, a local Awami Shecchasebok League leader and Bilkis Baby, 48. Alamgir’s younger brother Tanzil Shahria said the accident took place in the couple’s bedroom on Monday 2am. An hour later they were taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital’s Burn and Plastic Surgery Unit. Dr Partha Shankar Pal, a doctor of the unit, said 95% of both their bodies have burned. Alamgir is the Airport Thana Shecchasebok League president, while his wife is the organizational secretary of Uttara (West) Thana’s Mahila Awami League unit.
