Rod Brind’Amour was straightforward in his assessment of the pieces his Carolina Hurricanes got back in their blockbuster trade with the Calgary Flames last summer. The Hurricanes traded away Elias Lindholm and Noah Hanifin in June and received Dougie Hamilton and Micheal Ferland in return, as well as the rights to college prospect Adam Fox. Pundits have largely agreed that the trade was a win for the Flames, and Brind’Amour, the Hurricanes’ head coach, acknowledged Monday that he still wanted to see more from Hamilton, the biggest name in the deal. “Dougie, we’re still trying to figure him out,” Brind’Amour said. The winger’s hard-nosed approach to the game made him a fan favourite in Calgary, and it appears that he’s won over Brind’Amour, too.
