Hurricane Irma Literally Changed The Color Of These Caribbean Islands

NASA Earth ObservatoryBefore it flooded parts of Florida from Jacksonville to Key West, Hurricane Irma first crashed into a series of Caribbean islands as a monster category five storm. On the British and U.S. Virgin Islands, Irma marched across the landscape, tearing away roofs and vegetation as it went. By Sunday, when the skies had cleared over the islands, the Landsat 8 satellite snapped some natural color images of the Virgin Islands that showcase the scale of the devastation there. Also, salt spray whipped up by the hurricane can coat and desiccate leaves while they are still on the trees." Hard-hit Barbuda has clearly gone brown, whereas Antigua, which was largely spared the brunt of the storm, remains relatively green.
