Hundreds of dead fish line the shores of the Krishna river downstream of the point where the Godavari waters are being released into it. Devotees who went for their morning dip at the new Durga Ghat were overwhelmed by the smell of rotting fish. The cause of the death of this fish is said to be pH shock. It would take at least a month for the fish species in the Krishna river to adjust to the new water parameters and then the mortalities would stop, he said. This was because some species were more susceptible to pH shock.
