( THOMAS COEX )Mosul, which fell to Daesh in the summer of 2014, is still home to more than 1 million people. Iraqi forces are expected to use pontoon bridges when they reach the river. Families carry belongings as they flee Mosul amid intense fighting between Iraqi forces and Daesh fighters. The number of civilians displaced from Mosul — Daesh's last stronghold in Iraq — rose to 68,000, but most of the city's population remained trapped.
