Hundreds of students walked out of class at Bishop McNally High School on Thursday, calling on the Calgary Catholic School District to do more when it comes to incidents of racism in its schools. Students organized the walkout after two recordings began circulating online of staff from the school district using the N-word. The Catholic school district has since apologized for both situations. At 10 a.m. Thursday, hundreds of students from Bishop McNally High School walked out of their classes in protest of racist incidents in the Calgary Catholic School District. Ashton said students are also demanding that the school district research and collect data about the problems associated with Black students' experiences in the school system.
