Once split, they can produce hydrogen, which can be stored in pressurized vessels and re-electrified in fuel cells for power, even when the Sun doesn't shine. 'Compressed hydrogen energy storage falls into this category as well,' noted Abel, a chemical and biomolecular engineering PhD student at UC Berkeley.
