Human rights advocates are concerned about rampant forced labour in the region as part of an ongoing genocide of Uyghur people. Public Safety Canada said the government takes threats to individuals in Canada “seriously” and the RCMP knows about interference from foreign threats. The lab focuses on information and communication technologies and how they intertwine with human rights. The duo has interviewed 18 human rights activists in Canada about their experiences with cyber attacks, harassment and misinformation campaigns against them. Misinformation campaigns are also part of efforts by foreign regimes to silence their human rights critics in Canada.
