Huge urban growth with Unitary PlanSuppliedIncreased housing areas to the northern area seem to be the biggest changes to the new Proposed Unitary Plan released last week. There is a small increase of future urban zoning in Warkworth but segmenting of retail/commercial/industrial areas remain with a new industrial area planned in the north of the town. This placing would give heavy transport feeding the industrial area easy access to the new Puhoi to Warkworth motorway extension expected to be finished in 2022. Growth in coastal areas of Snells Beach, Matakana and Leigh remain much the same as does Wellsford. A massive area of rural countryside at the back of Orewa and Silverdale set aside for future housing is three times as big as in the previous plan.
