Hudson’s Bay announces it will close its downtown location Tuesday, following criticism of its decision to open after lockdown

The department store giant’s Queen Street location won’t be open for the remainder of the provincially-ordered lockdown after coming under criticism for apparently flouting the rules and staying open Monday. All Hudson’s Bay stores in Toronto and Peel will offer shoppers curbside pickup,” HBC spokesperson Tiffany Bourre said in an email to the Star. Bourre said the company had reviewed rule changes Sunday evening and believed it was in the clear to open the location. A Saks Food Hall, operated by Pusateri’s in the Saks outlet adjacent to the Bay, was only partly open Monday. The handful of customers wandering through the Bay and Saks stores were outnumbered by staff during a visit by the Star on Monday afternoon.
