Huawei 'prepared to sign no-spy agreement with UK government'

Huawei’s chairman has said the Chinese company would be prepared to sign a “no-spy agreement” with the British government to reassure politicians it has no intention of allowing its technology to be used for surveillance. “We are willing to sign a no-spy agreement with the UK government,” the company’s chairman told reporters, the first time he has made the offer of such a commitment public. Allies who allow Huawei technology inside their 5G networks have been told they may be frozen out of US intelligence sharing. Australia, New Zealand and Japan have banned Huawei from their 5G networks. However, the former defence secretary Sir Michael Fallon said the UK should “take account of American warnings” and ban Huawei entirely.
