Studies of Covid-19 patients in south Korea and Germany have found that up to a third may experience the condition, known as anosmia. The immune system recognises an invader and kills it off. Last week, a University of Oxford trial enrolled its first Covid-19 patients from NHS hospitals, and thousands more are expected to be recruited.
