There have been many attempts to come up with the perfect plane boarding procedure, from a Mythbusters episode to studies involving complicated mathematics. Humans who are determined to get on the plane first to nab that overhead bin real estate. In late 2019, London Gatwick Airport teamed up with EasyJet to trial new ways to board passengers. This included boarding those sitting in window seats first, starting at the back, followed by middle and aisle seat passengers. But crucially, instead of making the traditional audio announcement, they used a digital screen to communicate whose turn it was to board.
