How they make it: Carpet making at CavalierPETER MEECHAM/stuff.co.nz From the sheep to the home, carpet manufacturing is a highly involved process. Cavalier Carpets churns out 65 tonne of carpet every week from its factory in Auckland. Cavalier has been making carpet since 1959 and last year produced a record 1.4 million metres of carpet, he says. About half of the carpet produced by Cavalier is made from wool, and half from synthetic fibre. About 5 per cent of carpet produced by Cavalier is exported, mostly to Australia.
