After a COVID-19 outbreak at her daughter's workplace left four people in her family infected, Kate Kirkey is cautioning people not to ignore or downplay any early signs of infection and for employers not to ask people to work once they show even mild symptoms. As CBC News reported last week, the Middlesex-London Health Unit declared at outbreak at that Tims location after four employees tested positive for COVID-19. Once Kirkey heard about the positive case at her daughter's workplace, everyone in her family began to self-isolate and made appointments to get tested for the virus. All four were positive: Kirkey, her two daughters and her sister. The statement from Tims said the restaurant was closed for cleaning and sanitization once the outbreak was confirmed.
